Regardless of the number of times you have visited, due to the fact you are here and reading this, we consider you an enthusiast to some degree, and so we welcome you to the site.

An enthusiast can be defined as one who is absorbed in, or intensely devoted to, an interest or pursuit. As previously stated, the pursuit and interest of this website is the Porsche 911SC.

The Car that Saved the Brand

The Porsche 911SC, built during model years 1978 to 1983, was originally slated to be the last of the 911's Porsche would build. In 1981, Porsche was about to abandon the idea of the rear engine sports car and end what would have to be considered nothing short of an era of an automotive icon. Luckily for those of us who love the 911, and particularly the 911SC, Porsche hired a new CEO, Peter Schutz. An American, Schutz can be credited as being the man who saved the Porsche 911.

Peter W. Schutz (CEO Porsche AG 1981-1987) wrote:
"The decision to keep the 911 in the product line occurred one afternoon in the office of Dr Helmuth Bott, the Porsche operating board member responsible for all engineering and development. I noticed a chart on the wall of Professor Bott’s office. It depicted the ongoing development schedules for the three primary Porsche product lines: 944, 928 and 911. Two of them stretched far into the future, but the 911 program stopped at the end of 1981. I remember rising from my chair, walking over to the chart, taking a black marker pen, and extending the 911 program bar clean off the chart. I am sure I heard a silent cheer from Professor Bott, and I knew I had done the right thing. The Porsche 911, the company icon, had been saved, and I believe the company was saved with it."

We salute Peter Schutz and are grateful to him for his enthusiasm towards the car we know and love.

Does SC Really Stand for Super Carrera?

The Porsche 911SC has long been subject of a mystery... the mystery being: what does the SC stand for. There seem to be arguments on both sides, for and against, that SC stands for Super Carrera. There are references in certain Porsche 911 material that suggest that SC does indeed stand for Super Carrera, although no one seems to be able to find anyone at Porsche A.G., who will verify this suggestion. We suggest that you drive one, and then it is easy to believe that the Porsche 911SC, a bulletproof blast with a traditional past, truly is a Super Carrera.
